HUB Happenings - November Edition

HUB Happenings - November Edition

We hope you have enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break! Now it’s time to crank out the rest of the semester before Winter Break.
In honor of the upcoming winter holidays, the H.U.B. will be closed starting December 24 and will reopen its doors in the new year on January 7. (However, we will be available for online tutoring if necessary.) We hope that students (and their parents and teachers!) use this time to relax and recharge, and come back fresh for the new year!

The students had lots of fun this past month! Miss Lora’s middle school STEM class did several experiments, one that included dropping Mentos into Coke bottles to observe chemical reactions (though this author is convinced they enjoyed the mess more than anything).

In honor of Thanksgiving, the Junior Chef class made cranberry based recipes! Cranberry salsa, cranberry sauce, and a creamy version of the cranberry salsa. The students are really enjoying their cooking class with Miss Lora; they’re always excited and ready to eat their culinary creations!

Miss Tashana’s MS Environmental Science class has added pumpkins to their urban garden! After a pumpkin carving session, the students added the seeds, just to see if they would grow. The students were completely thrilled to add this gourd to their collection of green and yellow bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower, jalapeno hot peppers, cucumber, and curly kale. The garden is thriving and looking fabulous! If you haven’t seen it, be sure to check it out on the south side of our building.

We are continuing to offer SAT and ACT cram sessions before some testing dates. These are typically held on Thursday afternoons from 3 PM to 5 PM. The English session with Miss Sarah runs from 3:00-4:00 while the Math session with Miss Anne Margaret is from 4:00-5:00. Normally, two hours of tutoring would cost $100 but we offer the cram sessions at a reduced rate! Each session is $35 each or $70 for both – this is 30% off the regular tutoring price!! Be sure to call us or shoot us an email to be added to the next cram session!

We are also excited to announce that we are offering fast track classes for the spring semester! Starting January 17, we will be offering Chemistry from 8:00-11:00, Algebra II from 11:00-2:00, and HS English from 2:00-5:00 on Thursdays. These classes are designed for college-minded students in 11th or 12th grade that are looking to earn a full credit in half the time while gaining experience that will prepare them for college classes. Each class will cost $900 since students will earn the full credit just like our regular classes, but in half the time!

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions about class availability, tutoring, college planning, or any other topic you’d like to discuss.
